Hair Cuttery's July Stylist of the Month

Hair Cuttery's July Stylist of the Month

We recently launched our new Stylist of the Month program, where fans like you get to nominate your favorite Hair Cuttery stylists for their outstanding skills! Each month, we’ll choose a new stylist from among the nominations to be featured on our Facebook Page and in a special blog post like this one. Our very first Stylist of the Month is Ashley C. from the Cromwell Field salon in Glen Burnie, MD! We sat down with Ashley to find out a little more about her style and what it’s like working at Hair Cuttery.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Most of my free time consists of spending time with my beautiful two-year-old, Kylie, and my fiancé, Denver. I like to be outdoors even if it’s just taking the dogs for a walk or blowing bubbles with my little one. Of course I love to shop, as most women do, and bargain shopping is even better!

What made you decide to become a hair stylist?

I won’t lie – I had no clue what I wanted to be when I grew up. I have always loved playing with hair, whether it was my mom or my cousins. I never realized I could make a career out of it until I had the opportunity to go to my local vocational school, which offered cosmetology. I signed up just to see what it was about, and I fell in love with it! That's when I knew that being a hair stylist was exactly what I wanted to do! I'm a very creative person all around, and I love to make people happy. Nothing is better than turning that client around in the chair to show them their new look, and they smile from ear to ear! I love knowing that I put that smile on their face and that I made them happy. That feeling overall is wonderful.

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is actually very casual, although I'm always presentable. My makeup and hair are always done. I want someone to see me out and say, "Hmmm.... that girl must be a hair stylist!" When people approach me to ask about my hair and where I get it done, I always hand them a business card with my hours and tell them to come see me.

How do you keep up with the latest style trends?

Let’s face it; styles change so often these days, you don't know if natural, subtle highlights are in or if bold, vibrant colors are. A good way I keep up with the latest styles is by attending the classes offered to stylists at Hair Cuttery. I also find myself browsing online to see what the hottest celebrities are wearing these days. I cannot tell you how many times I have a client who sits in my chair and says, "I want my hair like this, you know... like so and so." Sometimes my clients even teach me a thing or two about what’s in style when they come in and show me a picture of how they would like their hair.

What do you enjoy most about working for Hair Cuttery?

I enjoy working for Hair Cuttery for many reasons. I like the affordable prices for the clients. Sometimes after I quote a client a price for their service, they respond with, "Wow, that's great," especially with the package deals! The clients always love getting a deal. Also, I like the laid-back atmosphere. Yes, we are professional, but we are also personable, and the clients notice it time after time. Most of all, I love the WOW Service! It’s so much easier to give the client what they are asking for when WOW Service is done! It hits all of the basics and then some, with the details of educating the clients on which products to use and how to achieve the same results at home.

What tools and products do you enjoy working with the most?

My brush and blow dryer are my absolute favorite tools to use. Specifically, my large Brush Strokes ball tip round brush and my Jilbère blow dryer. I like the Brush Strokes round brushes because when the heat of the blow dryer hits them, the bristles soften some, and it doesn't feel like the brush is "scratching" the client’s scalp. I've actually had several clients tell me that. They like the feeling of the brush for that reason. Blowouts tend to be one of my favorite finishes for a client’s hair. I believe they are so easy to accomplish on really any client when you use It's a 10 Miracle Leave-In and Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum before you blow dry. Two of my favorite products to use afterwards are Bed Head After Party or CIBU Ancient Veil to help smooth down any leftover frizz and add extra shine to the hair.
